Save on your franchise startup

Most franchise owners you meet will tell you that quite a bit of money incurred as costs could have been saved by them during the opening of their first units. This leads us to ask the question of why did the franchise companies not show them ways of saving money as part of their training process. Well, the answer is that the franchise companies probably did.

Impatience on the part of the franchisee is the biggest money waster when it comes to startup costs. New franchisees are excited and thrilled to get going, which is quite right, and can’t wait till their new franchise is open for business. Often, if something can be done in two ways and the faster way costs more money, majority of new franchisees would opt for the quicker option. Such kinds of choices can add up to a large amount of money and in most cases, the time gained or saved does not really produce any long-term value to make up for the increase in costs.

When it comes to franchise expenses, there are some common categories that most startups can save a considerable amount of money. The key areas that need to be focused on include:

Fees of the franchise company
Although many good franchise companies do not negotiate their fees, you may occasionally find one that does. If such is the case, you need to ensure that you can save as much as possible in this area. A good idea is to contact existing franchisees to find out what kind of deal they had received, so that you have a ballpark figure to negotiate with. If you uncomfortable negotiating by yourself, use a lawyer or someone else who will be able to get you the best bargain.

Turnkey packages
Most franchise companies offer you with turnkey packages where almost all your need to start the franchise is available in a package from a source. This source could be a third-party vendor or the franchisor itself. In both cases, the package is often selected because it is convenient and it is important to remember that not lowest price or best value but convenience is sold in these packages. After you acquire the components of the turnkey package, it is quite common to learn that the package could have been acquired at a significantly lower cost. Of course, the tradeoff when acquiring the turnkey package is that you do not need to invest in effort and time to purchase and source each component.

It is important to remember that saving is possible with whichever franchise your select and only requires you to determine the right areas that will produce the most savings.
